What can I say that hasn’t been already said thousand times. It’s a truly gorgeous city and not very far from Lugano, so if you don’t know what to do over the weekend…..

This beauty is one and half hours drive away. Unfortunately with a toddler you can’t really stretch the day much, so we had time to see only the upper district. Città Alta, where the historic core is, is separated from the Lower City with a powerful Venetian wall. (Venetian defensive systems are a Unesco Heritage Site since 2017)
We took the funicular to Castello di San Vigilio for some views and than stroll around the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore.
Easy sunday trip from Lugano is Varenna. This small town on the lake Como has a medieval center, charming Passeggiata degli Innamorati and Castello di Vezio just up the hill.
If you’re not fed up with the lake views yet, go check out Lago Maggiore. And if you’re not suffering of vertigo enjoy the views from the, little bit scary for my taste, open cable car.
